Echoes Keep Coming!

The Echos just keep coming back!

We were so excited to have Andy's return from Houston, TX.  Echo visited the Wampach family, friends of Mrs. Applebaum.  He had a wonderful time on his adventure.  While in Houston, Echo visited so many places and ate a lot of delicious food.  His favorite activity was riding a horse!

Ethan's Echo came back from Farmington, Minnesota.  He had the opportunity to meet Ethan's cousin, Hannah.  While there he learned a lot about hockey and even got to play hockey with Hannah.  He also go to go apple picking.

Piper's Echo came back from St. Louis, MO.  While there, Echo got to stay with Piper's family friend.  She got to go to the arch and so many museums!  She also got to hang out with Truman, MacTavish and Reno (their three dogs).  She also brought back pencils to share!

Cardboard Challenge Supplies

Dear Parents,

Our class will be participating in Dryden’s own version of the Global Cardboard Challenge in December, inspired by a 9 year old boy, who built an arcade entirely out of cardboard.  This cardboard idea sparked a movement and the Imagination Foundation, whose mission is to foster creativity and entrepreneurship in children around the world.

Students will be working in small groups to design something out of cardboard.  They may have some parameters with ideas as to what the “something” could be, but the idea of this project is to foster collaboration and creativity.  Students will also be problem solving, reflecting, and giving/receiving feedback as they design.  The culminating activity will be an hour in the morning or afternoon of sharing and play with other classrooms that participated as well.

The classroom is in need of cardboard- all shapes, sizes, and colors!  Please DO NOT send in cardboard that contained food at any point for allergy purposes.  Examples of some great boxes- shoe boxes, Amazon boxes, etc.  Please send in boxes on the Monday or Tuesday after Thanksgiving break. Also, if you have toilet paper or paper towel rolls at home, I will be collecting them all year long, so feel free to send them in anytime with your child.  Many thanks in advance for your help!

We can’t wait to get creative!!

Gianni's Echo made it back from Washinton D.C.  While he was there with Gianni's family, he visited the Capitol and the Washington Monument.  He also visited the White House and Jefferson Memorial.  he had a great time learning about our country's history!

Veteran's Day

Today we celebrated Veteran's Day.  We had an assembly where people from our community were recognized for their service.  Then, Mr. Eckert, Dylan's uncle, came to talk with the class about his experiences in the US Navy.  He shared memory books and lots of information with the students about his experience.  We thank him for his service and his time for coming to share with us.

Our Nests for Celest

Today in class we participated in a culminating activity to end our reading of the novel, A Nest for Celeste, that integrated with our science unit.  Students randomly were assigned a severe weather condition and they had to design a home to help Celeste survive in that specific environment.  They drafted their ideas and explained their thinking of their models and hen designed their homes using recycled materials.
