Solar System Videos

Each group is creating a video to teach their peers about their planet.  We will be videotaping next week.  If your child would like to bring any props, they need to bring them by Monday.  Check back to the blog!  They will posted soon!

Solar System Research

Your child has been researching about one of the planets in our Solar System.  They have learned about the features that make the planet unique.  This morning they shared with other people in class about their planets.  They voted on different categories to give awards to each planet.  We will be having an award ceremony called The Solars (similar to the Oscars) to find out which planet won each category.  The categories are:

Speediest Planet
Most Beautiful
Most Fascinating Moon(s)
Wildest Temperature
Strangest Atmosphere
The Best Planet

We will find out which planets are the winners on May 8th.  There will be more information coming about this in school event.  Stay tuned!

Partial Product Videos

We have started learning about different ways to solve multi-digit multiplication problems.  The class made videos to help them remember and teach others one of the methods.  Here are their videos on the Partial Products Algorithm:

Exceptional Excerpts

Last week we created a character to focus on with our new unit of writing.  Each child described their character and now have written a couple of stories about their character.  From those pieces, there were some great examples of descriptive writing.  We have been working on including showing details, instead of telling.  Here are some of the great examples we had this week:

"Her face was as red as a tomato."
-Gabi

"He took off as fast as a cheetah."
-Owen

"Asha felt like she had just found gold."
-Ava

"Joe marched into the kitchen.  He got some bread.  Hmm..."
-Demetri

"Maria started to breath heavy and broke a sweat."
-Samantha

Water Bottles

We are finally starting to have beautiful weather again.  We have had a couple warm and sunny days! Please send a water bottle to school to help keep your child hydrated.  Thanks!

The South Region

A couple of weeks ago, I sent home the next region your child will be learning.  We have been practicing once a week.  The test will be May 14th.  Keep practicing with them at home.  Please let me know if you need another copy of the packet or if you have any other questions.

Unit 9 Math

We completed Unit 8 this week in Math.  Next week we will begin Unit 9.  This is a unit on extended multiplication and multi digit multiplication.  They will be learning how to use various algorithms to help them find the answer to multi digit multiplication problems.  You can help your child by reviewing their multiplication facts with them at home on a daily basis.  This will help them as we move into these complex topics.  Also, check back here on Friday.  I will posting helpful videos to help the students practice at home.

Personalized Learning Projects

More projects have been shared and posted.  Check out our class page.  Also, the students have been writing about their experiences on their personal blogs.  Don't forget to check them out.  You can also comment on them which I know the students would love!

Personalized Learning

Some of the students have completed their first project.  I created a page so you can view everyone's projects.  Some students have chosen digital presentations while others chose visual projects.  If they did not select a digital presentation, I took pictures to share.  Students will continue with this process and be given the opportunity to research other topics of interest.

Book Trailers

We have been reading some great novels in class!  We have been discussing their craft and structure and what makes a novel suspenseful and exciting to read.  Each group created a book trailer to advertise their book.
