Veteran Visitor

On Veteran's Day we were so fortunate to have a Veteran visit us virtually.  Colonel Chris Naler joined our class virtually from Texas.  We were able to ask him lots of questions and he shared about his experiences while he served in the marines.  We were so fortunate to have him join us this year.

Halloween

Halloween was so much fun!  Although the rain was a challenge, we had a wonderful time at our indoor parade and party.  I want to thank all of the parents who donated items and/or their time to make this event such a success.  Here are some pictures of the fun we had that day.

Book Orders

I will be sending home book orders on Monday.  Ordering books is entirely optional.  If you are interested in ordering books, you can either order them online or send the order into class.  Book orders are due by Wednesday, October 13th.  Scholastic orders are taking a little longer to be delivered.  The last order took a little over three weeks to be delivered.

Weather and Climate

We will begin our first science unit of the year this week which is Weather and Climate.  We will begin by examining types of weather in various places and then learn how meteorologists collect data to help them identify and predict weather patterns.

Chapter 3

Your child will take the Chapter 3 test on Tuesday.  A review guide will come home on Monday.  You can help your child by reviewing it with him/her at home.  The review will give you an idea of the types of questions that your child may see on the assessment.  Not all questions will be covered on the review guide.  Chapter 4 videos will be posted on Wednesday on my blog.

Reading

In reading, we have been learning about how to reflect as we are reading independently.  Students have been practicing making predictions, asking questions, developing connections, and visualizing what is happening with various texts.  We have also been reviewing how to identify genre.

Social Studies

In Social Studies, we have been learning about maps and landforms.  We have been learning about how a landform contributes to the economy of various areas of the United States.  We will continue to learn more about landforms as we complete this unit.

Curriculum Night Presentation

Thank you so much to all those who were able to attend Curriculum Night.  If you were not able to attend, I sent home a green folder with your child with lots of information about classroom procedures and the third grade curriculum.  Let me know if you have any further questions. (:
