Map Skills Breakout Activity

In class today, we participated in a Breakout EDU activity.  Students used the skills they learned in our unit to help them solve puzzles and clues to open locks on a box.  We had a wonderful time applying all the skills we learned in our unit.

Chapter 3 Videos

We are now in Chapter 3 of Math in Focus.  In this unit, your child will be solving addition problems up to 1000.  We are also discussing key math vocabulary words such as sum and equation.  Here are some videos that can help your child when completing their homework at home.

ECHO IS ON THE WAY!

Each child has finished creating their Echo letters and envelopes.  They were sent to the district office on Monday and should have been postmarked today.  Please let your family and friends know they should arrive soon.  If for some reason they do not get them in the next couple of weeks let me know and we will send another package their way!

Novel Engineering

In class, we read a book, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day, and discussed all the problems the main character faced within the story.  Students then selected one of the problems and then developed a solution.  They also got to design a prototype out of cardboard.  We have a wonderful time thinking creatively and problem-solving together.

In Chapter 2 we will be working on mental math.  This can be a very challenging unit for the students.  We will be focusing on adding and subtracting larger numbers mentally.  There will also be a focus on rounding and estimation in this unit.  Here are some videos that can help your child with his/her work.
