Please sign all the forms!  (-:

Hi, everyone!  This is just a reminder to please send back all the forms that have been sent home.  These include my parent handbook, the district parent handbook, background information if you want to volunteer at school, etc.  Thanks!

CARAVAN ASSESSMENT

We have been learning about how maps are used in our world.  We learned about cardinal and intermediate directions.  We also learned about how latitude and longitude are used to identify a location.  Next week, your child will participate in a project-based assessment.  This assessment will be done at school.  There will be no review guide.
Creating a Conversation in Your Mind

This week, during our reading time, we discussed how it is important to have a conversation in your mind while reading text.  We discussed how good readers ask questions, make connections and think deeply about text.  We read the story How Many Day to America? by Eve Bunting as a class and then talked about how to think deeply while reading.

Kaley's Korner

Last week, we learned about the phases of the moon and in our science note books, we have a page that is setup so we can record our moon phrases for the rest of the month of April and the beginning of May. In our unit of math, we have been learning about mixed numbers and improper fractions. In reading, we read a non-fiction story about animal homes, and in center work, we have been doing work sheets with analogies. Mostly we have been reading about honey bees and their homes. In our unit of writing, we have had the opportunity to pick and make our own character; either it`s someone you know or if you could make up your own character. In social studies, we are learning about  Chicago and its history.

Christine's Corner

We learned that even though the moon looks bigger than the sun at night the sun is bigger.  We also went to an assembly about science.  We saw that if you swing water around in a circle it won't spill.  This week was fun!

Chuck's News

We put winter scenes on our windows for science class so it can be dark in the class room. One day when we came back from lunch recess......Mrs. Applebaum turned the lights off and closed the door.  Everybody  fell out of their chairs, literally because it was such surprise to see the room so dark.
